The west coast of British Columbia and Alaska are known for seeing Bald Eagles in abundance. There is something special though when the Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine forests are enveloped with morning fogs streaming through them and a Bald Eagles is present.

They are majestic birds of prey in nature having a white head for a crown. Between the ages of one to five, their heads are in transition from a deep brown colour to that of being completely white. This particular Bald Eagle is a four year old as its head still has not completely turned white.

Feeding primarily on fish along the coastal waters, it has a great perspective high above the tree canopy as it sits perched among the trees. The Species was endangered at one time when large amounts of the chemical DDT entered into their diets, but today its numbers are no longer dropping and it is making a strong comeback in many regions, including southern Ontario.
