MEDIA REPORTS HIGHLIGHING ARTIST

HARVEY BODACH

The Escarpment Magazine - Fall Issue/2022, is one of Georgian Bay’s major publications which recently published an article on the field work of Harvey Bodach, a landscape and wildlife artist. The story focusses on the amazing success story of the Bald Eagle which once was listed under the Ontario Endangered Species Act. The photography and research done by Harvey are of a male and female pair which are presently nesting on the shores of Georgian Bay .

The article “Birds of Prey” by Cara Williams can be found in print and online (in Flip Book and HTML formats) on pages 80-88. The online version below appears as a Flip Book. The other online HTML version which is longer contains many more photographs of the bald eagles by the artist, Harvey Bodach. The observational research done on this male and female pair of bald eagles was conducted over a 1 1/2 year period. It had not been confirmed at that time if there were any eggs or hatchlings in the nest, but the change in behavior of the eagle pair did convince Harvey that there was something.

“There was plenty of activity around the nest as it was being built. Both pair took turns bringing food and nesting inside. On one occasion when both pair had left the nest, Canada Geese got into it multiple times which created some chaos. As one eagle returned and circled the nest, fear gripped the Geese and in fear they tore off up the Beaver River with an eagle in pursuit. Over the next few weeks the behavior of the eagles changed. They no longer were as committed to nesting as before.”

The focus of the article is on the artist’s work in the field. This is the first of two consecutive articles by the Escarpment Magazine on the work of the artist. The second focusses on his extensive work in the studio as a landscape and wildlife artist.
