“Early Morning Breakout - Common Loon Family”

by Harvey Bodach

This 2001 study is the first of four studies which were done in preparation for a large acrylic painting on masonite board. It will represent the largest painting to date, measuring 32 inches by 56 inches. The landscape is found along the southern shorelines in Killarney Provincial Park which has numerous white quartzite stones protruding out from amongst the trees throughout the park. The painting had a late 2016 start, and since eight to ten paintings are worked on at a given time, it will have been a four year project when finished.

It is based on quick sketches and photography done while travelling through Killarney Provincial Park and the Kawartha Lakes area in the summer of 1999. Both landscapes and the Common Loons found there were the inspiration. These pencil sketches and drawings on this website were completed in 2001 through to 2002 and have guided the direction that this large painting is taking. The painting had a completion date of September 2021 and was officially published then.
