The White Tailed Deer’s coat is a thin reddish-brown throughout the warmer spring and summer seasons which then turns to a thicker greyish brown for the cooler fall and winter seasons. It is late summer for this deer where the coat is still transitional in its colours. It’s antlers still have a deep reddish tone to them resulting from it shedding the summer velvet coverings in early September.

This Deer can be recognized by a characteristic white underside to its tail which rises when it is alarmed, an indicator to any predator that it have been detected. Its habitat includes areas near streams and rivers, mixed woodlots between farms, forests, and burned shrub fields. Open areas are used only when thick shrubs, a forest exist nearby or when they are fighting during rutting seasons.

The age and maturity of male White Tailed Deer or Bucks as they are called is recognized by the number of points in a class they have for antlers. This being a very large fourteen point rack, it stands to between 5 and 7 years of age. The average lifespan for wild deer hovers around five years as a result of hunting, and 14 years in captivity.
